The new Netflix political drama “House of Cards” is now in production in the Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C. areas. The casting directors are auditioning actors in New York, Los Angeles and Baltimore/D.C. for guest starring, recurring, and day player roles. In addition to the acting roles, many extras are being hired throughout the season. “House of Cards” will be based on the BBC miniseries of the same name. That original BBC version was based on a novel from British author Michael Dobbs. Netflix has ordered two seasons of episodes.

Starring in “House of Cards” is two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey as Rep. Frank Underwood, a House of Representatives Majority Whip who, after not being appointed Secretary of State, derives a plan to bring down the new president and take over the Oval Office. Golden Globe Award nominee Robin Wright plays Frank’s wife Claire Underwood; Kate Mara is playing Zoe Barnes, a reporter for a Washington paper who conspires with Underwood to land a killer scoop; Michael Gill plays U.S. President Garrett Walker; two-time Tony nominee Jayne Atkinson is Sen. Catherine Durant; Corey Stoll landed the role of womanizing Rep. Patrick Russo, and Kristen Connolly plays Russo’s Executive Assistant Christina Malone with whom he has a torrid affair.

The production companies behind “House of Cards” are Media Rights Capital and Kevin Spacey’s Trigger Street Productions. Media Rights Capital is a top independent film and television studio that is backed by Goldman Sachs, AT&T and WPP Group PLC. The company specializes in the creation of premium entertainment content. Trigger Street Productions is a production company founded by Spacey and his producing partner Dana Brunetti. Netflix, which has over 20 million subscribers, outbid such major players as HBO and AMC for the rights to distribute “House of Cards” exclusively.

Academy Award nominee Beau Willimon is the head writer and one of the executive producers of “House of Cards”. Two-time Academy Award winner David Fincher is also executive producing, and is directing some of the shows episodes. Fincher has directed such films as “The Game,” “Panic Room,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “The Social Network,” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. The other executive producers are Academy Award winner Eric Roth, Trigger Street’s Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, Joshua Donen, and John Melfi.

Principal Acting Roles

The casting director for “House of Cards” in Baltimore/D.C is looking for actors to fill the following roles:

• [MODERATOR] Female, 40’s. Kindly moderator of an AA meeting.
• [HOUSEKEEPER] – Female, She needs to have a southern accent. Very very subtle accent.
• [WELL WISHER 1 and 2] Males 50-60, red-faced and balding. Must have Southern accent.
• [CADET 1 and 2] Male or Female, 20’s, any ethnicity. Cadet at the Citadel.

Extras Casting Details

The background performer casting directors in Baltimore/D.C is hiring people who are located within reasonable driving distance of the area to work as fully paid extras on “House of Cards”. In addition to extras, you may also be considered for recurring or featured speaking roles.

The following types are needed:

• Males, Secret Service. Must 6’0 or taller, very well built.

To be considered, submit one close up picture and one full length or 3/4 length picture dressed appropriately for the role. You must show yourself looking like the type you are submitting for and look as though you can realistically portray that character.

Story:
