Sony Pictures Television and Pariah Entertainment Group are set to begin production on the new television series pilot “Zombieland” in Atlanta, Georgia. The extras casting director is holding an open casting call for local people 18 years of age and older to work as general and possible featured background performers on the film. Shooting begins on February 25, 2013. The series is a continuation of the 2009 American zombie comedy film of the same name starring Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin. “Zombieland” is also accepting resumes from experienced production staff and television crew members.

“Zombieland” centers on four surviving humans who come together to persevere through the Zombie Apocalypse. Their attempts to join up with other remaining remnants of the human race who have also survived the zombie plague end up being plagued by laughable calamity. The main four characters are Columbus, a 20ish timid guy who meets up with his gorgeous ex-girlfriend Witchita and her chip-off the-block sister Little Rock. They end up banding with Columbus, a 40ish man who was the world’s most gifted zombie slayer and takes it all in humorous stride. And then there is Fred and Ainsley, two office workers who are incognizant to the pandemonium just outside their office window, until a massive zombie comes bashing through the window and attacks.

Starring in “Zombieland” is 23-year-old Tyler Ross in the role of Columbus, played by Jesse Eisenberg in the film version. Ross was discovered in Chicago after he was cast there in two indie films, “Nate and Margaret,” and “The Wise Kids”. The super-talented actress, singer, and philanthropist Maiara Walsh – who easily fits the character description of “absolutely gorgeous” – is playing the role of Wichita, played by Emma Stone in the film. Izabela Vidovic is portraying the character Little Rock, played by Abigail Breslin in the film.

Multiple film-festival award winner Eli Craig will direct the pilot episode of “Zombieland” from a teleplay written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Craig, who is Sally Field’s son, started out in the entertainment industry as an actor in a few small bit parts. He made his feature film directorial debut with the low-budget horror comedy “Tucker & Dale vs Evil” in 2010. That film was a financial success with a budget of $53 thousand and over $224 thousand in ticket sales at the box office. “Zombieland” writers Wernick and Reese also wrote the screenplay for the feature film version. The two will executive produce with Gavin Polone.

“Zombieland” is a product of Amazon Studios, which develops movies and television shows from online submissions and crowd-sourced feedback. Although scripts for television and film are submitted through the web, there is a separate submission method for professional writers, i.e. Writers Guild of America members, with separate rules where the writers agent directly contacts the Los Angeles-based production company, Amazon Studios, Inc. For feature film scripts, Amazon Studios has a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Pictures, which means that Amazon will be presenting the top projects to Hollywood’s biggest studio for consideration.
