Golden Globe Award nominee Reba McEntire, who is is the best-selling female country artist of all time, is set to star in her second television series, ABC’s upcoming multi-camera half-hour sitcom “Malibu Country”. Casting directors in Los Angeles and New York are auditioning actors for series regular and recurring roles. Shooting will take place in Los Angeles, where the show’s extras will be cast.
“Malibu Country” centers on Reba Gallagher (Reba McEntire) who, after her country-star husband cheats on her, divorces him and moves her family from Nashville to a little house in Malibu. Tony Award winner Lilly Tomlin will play Shirley, Reba’s warm and funny medical-marijuana smoking mother who joins the family in their move. Sara Rue plays Kim, Reba’s upbeat new neighbor who is a share-too-much, hug-too-freely, trophy wife with a gay teenage son. Justin Prentice has been cast as Reba’s son Cash, and Juliette Angelo as her daughter Sarah.
In “Malibu Country,” Golden Globe nominee Reba McEntire is joining forces once again with some of the people she worked with on her show “Reba,” which ran successfully on the WB network from 2001 until 2007. Rejoining her team are Kevin Abbott as a writer and co-executive producer; “Reba” executive producers Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel of Acme Productions; Reba’s husband and manager Narvel Blackstock; Dave Stewart, formerly of the Eurythmics; and Pamela Oas Williams of Laura Ziskin Productions.
Three-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee John Pasquin has signed on to direct the pilot episode of “Malibu Country”. Pasquin began directing Broadway theatre plays in the early 1980s, and has an extremely impressive television directing resume that includes over 35 series and telefilms, and has also directed several feature films. He is a Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude BFA graduate from Beloit College and a Theatre MFA from Carnegie Melon University.
