Warner Horizon Television and TNT will begin filming the continuation of the “Dallas” series in October, 2012. The original series aired on CBS from 1978 to 1991. The new series will center primarily around J.R. Ewing’s son John Ross, and Bobby’s adopted son Christopher. Casting for the series stars and guest stars is taking place in Los Angeles, and casting for smaller speaking roles, extras, photo doubles, and stand-ins is taking place in Dallas, TX where shooting will take place.

The pilot episode was filmed in and around the city of Dallas in early 2011. The remaining nine episodes in the first season order will be shot in Dallas as well, based in studios constructed for the FOX television series The Good Guys. The city council approved spending $235,000 to finish out Jack Matthews’s South Lamar warehouse into a motion picture and television studio, which will bring additional revenue and jobs to the Dallas area. The operation of an average television series means an average of 300 jobs – 100 regular crew, plus on average 200 day players, police, extras and actors.

Primetime Emmy nominee Cynthia Cidre is executive producer and wrote the pilot episode, and two time Primetime Emmy winner Michael M. Robin directed the pilot and is also executive producing. The pilot script was based on characters by David Jacobs, who was creator of the original “Dallas” series. This new continuation is in production for TNT, sister company to Warner Bros. Television, which owns the original series since its purchase of Lorimar (Dallas’s original production company) in 1989.

Open casting calls for extras in the Dallas, TX and surrounding areas will be posted here as soon as the information becomes available.

“Dallas” will premier in Summer, 2012 on TNT.

Story:

The original Dallas aired from 1978 to 1991 and centered on the Ewing family, a cattle and oil dynasty occupying the expansive Southfork Ranch in Texas. The new version will focus on the Ewing offspring — J.R. Ewing’s son John Ross (Josh Henderson of Desperate Housewives), and Christopher, the adopted son of Bobby and Pam Ewing (Jesse Metcalfe of Desperate Housewives) — as they clash over the family dynasty’s future. Jordana Brewster (Fast and Furious) stars as Elena, who is involved in a love triangle with Christopher and John Ross. Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) stars as Christopher’s fiancée Rebecca. The updated Dallas will feature original series stars Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray. Hagman gained worldwide fame for his portrayal of oil baron J.R. Ewing. Gray played J.R.’s wife Sue Ellen Ewing, while Duffy portrayed J.R.’s younger brother Bobby.
