Warner Bros. Television is currently in pre-production on the CW Television Network series “The Carrie Diaries”, which is a prequel to “Sex and the City,” and will follow the character of Carrie Bradshaw during her senior year of High School during the early 1980s and part of her life in New York working as a writer. Several starring roles remain to be cast as well as many smaller speaking roles for teens. Auditions are taking place in Los Angeles and New York. A large number of teen extras will also be hired in New York to portray 1980s high school students.

Teen Choice Award nominated and Young Artist Award winning actress AnnaSophia Robb has been perfectly cast to play a young Carrie Bradshaw as she comes of age in the 1980s, asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan. Ellen Wong – best known for ABC’s “Combat Hospital,” and Universal Pictures’ “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” – will play Carrie’s best friend in high school, Jill Thompson. Katie Findlay has been cast as Carrie’s oldest friend Maggie Landers, the police chief’s daughter. The adorable Stefania Owen plays Carrie’s youngest sister Dorrit Bradshaw.

Independent Spirit Award winning filmmaker Miguel Arteta will executive produce and direct “The Carrie Diaries” from an adapted screenplay written by Amy Harris. “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell was contracted by HarperCollins to write a two book series about the high school years of “Sex and the City” character Carrie Bradshaw. The first of these, “The Carrie Diaries,” was published in April 2010. Next in the series, “Summer and the City” (Carrie Diaries Series #2) was published in April 2011. This television series in based on these two books.

Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein will executive produce in association with Warner Bros. Television. Fake Empire has produced such shows as “The O.C.”, “Chuck,” “Hart of Dixie,” and “Gossip Girl”. HBO owns the rights to Sex and the City, and wanted to find a more teen friendly outlet for “The Carrie Diaries”, made a deal with CW. HBO’s brand caters to the “True Blood,” “Entourage,” R-rated fare.

Shooting on “The Carrie Diaries” pilot episode is scheduled to begin in the New York City area on March 21 and continue through April 8, 2012.
