The Golden Globe nominated USA Network one-hour drama series “Necessary Roughness” is currently casting actors and extras for it’s second season. The show is filmed in Atlanta, GA. Series regulars and guest stars are cast in Los Angeles, with smaller speaking roles cast in Atlanta. All of the extras, and stand-ins are cast in Atlanta. “Necessary Roughness” is under AFTRA contract, however both union and non-union talent can submit.

The series was created and is executive produced by Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro. The show is based on the true story of a female psychologist Dr. Donna Dannenfelser who worked for the New York Jets. Initially titled “Dr. Donna,” the show first appeared on the USA Network’s development slate in December 2009. In May 2010, the network placed a cast-contingent pilot order under the new name “Necessary Roughness”. Kevin Dowling, Jeffrey Lieber, Donna Dannenfelser, and Joe Sabatino also executive produce.

Starring in “Necessary Roughness” is the talented actress Callie Thorne as Dr. Dani Santino. Thorne was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her role on the show in the catagory of “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series”. Her acting credits also include “ER,” “The Wire,” “Prison Break,” and “Rescue Me” among many others. Hannah Marks and Patrick Johnson play her kids; Marc Blucas plays her love interest Matthew Donnally; Scott Cohen plays the role of former Navy SEAL Nico Careles; and Mehcad Brooks plays New York Hawks’ star player Terrence “T.K.” King. Amanda Detmer will return on a recurring basis as Dani’s best friend, Jeanette. Rob Estes and Evan Handler have both nabbed roles on season two. The former Melrose Place and 90210 star will appear on the season 2 premiere as TK’s agent, someone willing to do anything at all for his client. Handler (Sex and the City, Californicaion), meanwhile, will portray Marshall Pittman, a media mogul who owns the New York Hawks and who will guest star on three upcoming episodes.

“Necessary Roughness” Season 2 will premier in September, 2012 on USA Network.

Story:

“Necessary Roughness” is the story of Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne), a tough, sexy Long Island therapist whose world is turned upside down when she discovers her husband Ray (Craig Bierko) has been cheating on her. With an ugly, expensive divorce and custody battle looming, Dani must quickly figure out how to expand her limited therapy practice to support herself and her two teen-aged children, Ray Jr. (Patrick Johnson) and Lindsay (Hannah Marks), so she’s no longer reliant on her ex-husband. A gutsy Dani talks herself into a therapy gig with a pro-football team – a huge career coup that wreaks havoc with her personal life. The job quickly becomes a 24/7, all-consuming affair that extends far beyond the traditional weekly one-hour sessions. All this – while trying to raise her two challenging teenagers and re-entering the dating scene for the first time in 17 years.
