Flying Car Films, Bad Robot Productions and Warner. Bros Television have been given a series order by FOX for the new sci-fi drama television series “Almost Human. Casting for guest starring, new recurring, and day player roles will be ongoing throughout the season, as will the extras and stand-ins. The series takes place 35 years into the future when humans in the LAPD are each teamed up with realistic androids, and a detective who has a distaste for robots ends up being teamed up with one that has human-like emotions. Shooting on the multi-camera series takes place from July 17th through December 1st in Vancouver.

“Almost Human” centers on Los Angeles cop John Kennex, who survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. After waking up from a coma, he discovers that his partner was killed, his girlfriend Anna Moore left him after the attack, and he lost one of his legs and now has a high tech synthetic limb. His longtime ally Captain Sandra Maldonado convinces him to return to law enforcement, which requires every cop be paired with a battle-ready MX-43 android. However, John terminates his partnership after the robot discovers incriminating information about him. So technician Rudy Lom introduces John to Dorian, a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses. The two become connected, since John is part robot and Dorian is part human. John also must learn to get along with his new colleagues, including Detective Valerie Stahl, and the distrustful Detective Richard Paul.

Starring in “Almost Human” is Screen Actors Guild Awards winner Karl Urban playing the central character John Kennex. Urban is a is a New Zealand actor who has had high profile roles is such films as “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” “The Bourne Supremacy,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” and the recently completed movies “Riddick” and “The Loft”. Canadian filmmaker J. H. Wyman is the show’s creator and executive producer, as well as showrunner. Wyman also served in the same capacity on the FOX science-fiction series “Fringe”, as an executive producer, writer, director and showrunner. He is also an accomplished actor who was a series regular on ABC’s “Sirens,” and has appeared on other shows and films such as “Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years,” “Pacific Palisades,” and the HBO movie “Random Encounter”. Various directors work different episodes during the season. In television shows composed of individual episodes, the television director’s role differs from that of a film director in that he or she may work only on some television episodes as opposed to the director of an entire film production. In episodic television productions, the major creative control resides with a producer of the show. The television producer with creative control is called the showrunner (in this case, J. H. Wyman).
