Amblin Television and Energy Entertainment are gearing up to begin production on the new futuristic sci-fi thriller CBS television series “Extant”, produced by Steven Spielberg and starring Halle Berry as the central character. The show’s award winning casting director has sent out casting calls and will be holding auditions in Los Angeles for series regulars. Additional casting for possible recurring and guest starring roles will be taking place. The extras will be hired beginning in February, 2014 when shooting begins in Los Angeles.

“Extant” is a futuristic sci-fi thriller that revolves around Molly, an astronaut who returns home from a yearlong solo mission aboard the Seraph Space Station and discovers that while she was up there, she became pregnant. Meanwhile, her inventor husband is on the verge of a major breakthrough with his greatest creation, their ten-year-old android son. These events place this extraordinary family at the epicenter of a change in the course of human history, a change that could ultimately tear them apart.

Starring in “Extant” is Academy Award winner Halle Berry playing the central character of Molly. Berry does not work regularly on television shows, and her last appearance on the small screen was in the 2005 ABC TV movie “Their Eyes Were Watching God”. Also starring in “Extant” is Young Artist Awards nominee Pierce Gagnon playing the role of Ethan, Berry’s android son. Gagnon is a rising star who has three films in post-production – “Merry Friggin’ Christmas” starring alongside Robin Williams, “Wish I Was Here” starring opposite Kate Hudson and Ashley Greene, and voicing Tiago in “Rio 2”. Hiroyuki Sanada has been cast to play chief investor of the new worldwide space agency ISEA, Kinji Matsumo.

Three time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, Primetime Emmy Award winner Darryl Frank, and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Justin Falvey will executive produce for Amblin Television. Brooklyn Weaver will executive produce for Energy Entertainment. Also executive producing is Greg Walker and Mickey Fisher, with Halle Berry serving as co-executive producer. CBS Television Distribution will handle domestic distribution, while CBS Studios International will handle worldwide distribution rights.
