The CBS crime drama “Hawaii 5-0” is gearing up for a likely return to production on season 2 in July, 2011. Casting for principal actors, day players, extras, and stand-ins will be taking place within the next two months. The series regulars are mostly cast out of Los Angeles, and the rest of the casting is done in Hawaii. Shooting takes place in Oahu, Hawaii.

101st Street Productions and Kurtzman Orci Paper are the production companies behind the series which has received mostly positive reviews, although recent ratings have dropped far off from the first season drawing  of 19.34 million viewers for episode 15.

“Hawaii Five-0” won the “Favorite New TV Drama” at the 37th People’s Choice Awards on January 5, 2011. Series star Scott Caan was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film for his role as Danny. Actor Mark Dacascos, who played the role of Wo Fat in four episodes of season one, has been a fan favorite and will hopefully return for a series regular in season 2.

Story:

A contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands’ sun-drenched beaches. Detective Steve McGarrett, a decorated Naval officer turned cop, returns to Oahu to investigate his father’s murder and stays after Hawaii’s governor persuades him to head up the new team: his rules, her backing, no red tape and full blanket immunity to hunt down the biggest “game” in town. Joining McGarrett is Detective Danny “Danno” Williams, a newly relocated ex-New Jersey cop who prefers skyscrapers to the coastline but is committed to keeping the Islands safe for his 8-year-old daughter; and Chin Ho Kelly, an ex-Honolulu Police Detective wrongly accused of corruption and relegated to a federal security patrol, who is also a former protégé of McGarrett’s father. Chin’s cousin, Kono, is a beautiful and fearless native, fresh out of the academy and eager to establish herself among the department’s elite. McGarrett vows to bring closure to his father’s case while the state’s brash new FIVE-0 unit, who may spar and jest among themselves, is determined to eliminate the seedy elements from the 50th state.
