AB Media Publishing, LLC

From the creator of the hit ABC series “Desperate Housewives” comes an amazing new comedy-drama series for Lifetime Television called “Devious Maids”. Casting is taking place in Los Angeles and New York, as well as in Atlanta, GA where the 1-hour show will be shot. The pilot episode was filmed in Los Angeles. Auditions will be ongoing throughout season one for guest starring, recurring, and day player roles. All extras will be cast in the Atlanta area beginning on November 27, 2012. “Devious Maids” will air on Lifetime in 2013.

The series is based on the Mexican TV series “Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar,” which translates to English as “They are a Home’s Joy” and was heavily influenced by Desperate Housewives. The Mexican series is based on an original concept by Gloria Calzada, Juan Meyer and Salvador Rizo. The American adaption was to follow four maids with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. The show was originally produced for ABC, however Lifetime picked up the series on June 22, 2012 with an initial 13 episode order.

The cast includes ALMA Award winner Ana Ortiz as the main protagonist Marisol, who’s son has recently been convicted of the murder of Flora Sanchez. Marisol is intensely interested in finding out what she can about Flora’s death; Daytime Emmy Award winner Susan Lucci plays the beautiful wealthy Genevieve Delacourt, who is a bit looney due to the dizzying drop in her sexual eminence; ALMA Award winner Judy Reyes portrays Zoila Del Barrio, the senior maid at the Delacourt household; Edy Ganem plays Valentina, Zoila’s daughter and junior maid at the Delacourt mansion; ALMA Award nominee Dania Ramirez is cast as Rosie Falta, who left her son Miguel back in Mexico when her husband died, and is a maid for two self-absorbed and successful actors; ALMA Award winner Roselyn Sanchez plays Carmen Verde, a maid for Cuban-American pop star Zurina; and Drew Van Acker plays Remi Delacourt, Genevieve’s son and the object of Valentina’s romantic advances.

Executive producing “Devious Maids” is two-time Primetime Emmy nominee Marc Cherry, Sabrina Wind, and Golden Globe Award nominee Eva Longoria. The series is actually set within the Desperate Housewives universe, as Roselyn Sánchez made a cameo appearance in the final episode, “Finishing the Hat”, as her character Carmen. Marc Cherry is also creator and head writer of the series, the same positions he held with Desperate Housewives. Other executive producers are John Mass, Larry Shuman, David Lonner, Michael Garcia, and Paul Presburger.

Story:

“Devious Maids” follows the lives of five maids with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Marisol (Ana Ortiz) is a college educated woman who has a secret agenda for finding work as a domestic in a certain very upperclass neighborhood. Her beloved son has recently been convicted of the murder of Flora Sanchez, and Marisol is intensely interested in finding out what she can about Flora’s death. Barely successful in gaining employment at the home of Michael (Brett Cullen ) and Taylor (Brianna Brown ) Slate, Marisol soon worms her way into her target home, belonging to Adrian (Tom Irwin) and Evelyn (Rebecca Wisocky). Genevieve Delacourt (Susan Lucci) is a beautiful, wealthy woman who is gently crazy. Having spent her adult life attracting one powerful man after another, she’s reduced to seducing the Armenian pool boy, and the vertiginous drop in her sexual status has left her – well, the word is nuts. Unused to having men walk past her as if she were as sexless as a mailbox, Genevieve is feeling suicidal. Zoila Del Barrio (Judy Reyes) is the senior maid at the Delacourt household; her intelligence is matched only by her humor. Having gotten her daughter Valentina (Edy Ganem) a job as the junior maid at the Delacourt mansion, Zoila watches in stunned, silent horror as her daughter deliberately defies the laws of tradition and the Catholic Church, and sets out to seduce Remi Delacourt (Drew Van Acker), the heir to the family fortune. Rosie Falta (Dania Ramirez) has one remarkable trait: her quiet strength. A single mother, Rosie left her son Miguel back in Mexico when her husband died, slipped into El Norte and now works as the housemaid/nanny for a pair of self-absorbed and successful actors. Desperate to be reunited with her son, she’s astonished by Peri Davis’s (Mariana Klaveno) appalling disinterest in her 1 year old son, and though that disinterest keeps Rosie steadily employed, it also keeps her chained to the Davis household, unable to slip away and see an immigration attorney. Carmen Verde (Roselyn Sanchez) carries herself like the rich and famous woman she will one day be. Employed by Zurina (Angelique Cabral), a Cuban-American pop star who is regularly on tour, Carmen is an aspiring singer, and wrongly assumes that Zurina will give her a hand up the ladder. Obliged to take matters into her own hands after Zurina proves to be the kind of woman who doesn’t share anything, Carmen has a ruthless plan, and she’ll stop at nothing in order to market herself. Evelyn Powell (Rebecca Wisocky) is unhappily married to Adrian (Tom Irwin), but she’s a bitch who makes her diffident, cheating husband suffer for everything he gets on the side. The kind of employer who threatens her maids with deportation if her husband happens to get frisky, Evelyn is a self-absorbed monster who has no idea what to do when her maid is stabbed to death, and there’s no one at hand to clean up the bloodstains. Close friends with Taylor, Evelyn has a wretchedly hard time finding another maid, simply because her last one was murdered, and has no idea that Marisol has volunteered to clean her house because she’s deeply interested in the death of Flora.
